OK, here goes (not really sobriety, but definately a benefit of sobriety).
Our daughter will graduate from highschool in a couple of weeks. She is going to start college at our local community college. We have discovered she is eligible for the GI Bill transfer (from hubbie-her dad). This will pay full tuition, book/supplies, and fees. Plus she will get a stipend of $1,000/month.
This transfer is only good for one child. We have two.
There are only 48 months worth of eligibility.
Would it be unreasonable to have her give up the stipend so we can invest that $1,000/month for her little brother's future college bill? He will not be able to receive the GI Bill transfer.
She will come out of college not owing any money in student loans.
One of the enticements I was thinking about is that if her brother doesn't use all the money, we will split it between them.
If it wasn't for sobriety, I would not have this dilemna. She would get and keep all the money then hubbie and I would be panic scrambling to fund her little brother's college. Sobriety has given us the ability to think beyond the moment and outside the box.
Thanks for your time!!
