Ok, this is the last time I will try to post this!

Sometimes I hear people online or f2f claim that they will ask their HP for something, sometimes something quite trivial. My understanding is that while one can request that God's will be done, that requesting "things" is not really kosher. Years ago, on another board I read a post where the auther said that if he had known that HP would do his bidding he would have sent him on a beer run back in his drinking days. I got a chuckle out of that but, to me, it points to a real problem in the way that some folks approach God.

What do you think?

I think people can ask for what ever they want that isn’t up to me. As for me I stop praying for people or things and instead ask what can I do to best help them. I have a few friends get cancer and I would pray for them and they would die. Then I read something in the grapevine about a father praying for his son to get sober. His sponsor asked don’t you think god knows you wants your son to get better, then suggested to he might what to ask god to show him how to be a better father and his son then got sober. Now the way I keep them in my thoughts is seeking ways I can be that supportive friend, something I can truly do.

Everyone has a different view of their HP in my experience. I feel like that old saying is apt..."if you have to have it explained, you wouldn't understand; if you understand, you don't have to have an explanation".

The only thing I ask for when I pray is the ability to accept and deal with whatever is put before me. Anything beyond that is "telling God what to do". Of course, I also don't use the word God because I don't want you to think mine is anything like yours. *wink* Just teasing, but it's such a personal thing that I don't waste too much time figuring out whether others are doing it wrong.

I still think God is a tad bit too busy to give a rat's ass if you win the lottery, get a new Ford pick-up, get layed, or what have you. People pray for all kinds of reasons to all kinds of gods and maybe it makes them feel better, feel luckier, feel more spiritual. That cant be a bad thing? I see bad shit all day long and deep down in my soul I don't think that God really has anything to do with anything, just sitting up there on his throne, basking in the praises, laughing at us inferior beings struggling with the bad shit that happens to us. Maybe life is just that...life, and it goes on regardless of who prays to who for what ever reasons.
