Brigid C replied to Amy(Wallace)C's discussion 'Self Forgiveness' in the group AA Group
After I had completed all the amends that I was capable of making I found it then necessary to look at my complete inability to forgive myself. I came into the fellowship with such deep self-loathing and found it very difficult to sit in my own…

Yup, you're right on that one. The old, "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make 'em drink" comes to mind. Except in this case, we want to STOP drinking, or whatever other immediate gratification they are into. The…

I'm not sure what 13th stepping has to do with Unity as it applies in the First Tradition, but I do know that I really try to protect the newcomer ladies in our meetings to the best of my ability.  However, a recent situation occured where…

I ran into much the same situation when I first got sober. The first program I was in (I went through 2, back to back) there were quite a few people there from the Horse Racing Association, trainers and handlers, mostly. There was a grey haired…

How serious should we take the First Tradition?

A few years ago a sponsee of mine got involved with a man new to the program.  Being this wasn't her first time playing 13th stepper, she and I had a long conversation about it and the potential damage she was doing.  Didn't matter, her needs came first.  I fired her.  After a while this man started spending a lot of her money in the name of "starting a business".  Well things went from bad to worse.  She ended up in an inpatient psych unit due to depression.  Her family order everything bought…See More

RIP Charlie

Per an email I got from Rober H, Charlie Parmley passed away.  His service is scheduled for Tuesday April 26th in Jay, OK. Personally I find this very sad.  I have gained a great deal from the Joe and Charlie Big Book studies and I use them with sponsees. (and I met hubbie in a Joe and Charlie Big Book study!) See More

I can understand wanting a group you feel safe & secure with. Im in a small town & meetings are more limited than where I began my sobriety. They tend to be more cliquish & hypocrytical. I have been shunned by some for not attending…

It sounds silly--"upscale meetings".   But is it, really?  If some old guy (or gal) needs an AA meeting with other doctors to get sober--so be it.   Remember we all come in as sick people.  I used to be…

We've had a couple issues with medical professionals in our town because it is so small.  One doctor wanted to go to ultra-Anonymity-stressed meetings, and since there were none of those around (how can you guarantee that?), he ended up…

Giggle!!!!

One of my best friends is a family physician.  She does not know a lot about AA except that she suggests it to her patients whenever they come to her for their drinking problems. Today she sent me a text asking me if I knew of any "upscale" AA meetings in town.  Seems someone in the upper crust in our town would like to get sober.  I have been  chuckling about this all day!See More

In the first case...having access to the inside of a store should hardly be a factor in making amends.  Making a call and arranging a meeting with the owner or writing a letter to him (being so careful here, we never want to put anything in…

9th Step

Made direct ammends wherever possible except when to do so would injure them or others.

I am NOT one of the "them or others".

Last week I was at a meeting someone brought the the 9th step up as a topic. One man shared he had stolen so much money for local stores he wasn't allowed in them any more. He then said "my sponsor said to accept the fact I will never make those ammends".

Really? Never? What kind of sponsor would say something like this to someone…

Question

OK, here goes (not really sobriety, but definately a benefit of sobriety).

Our daughter will graduate from highschool in a couple of weeks. She is going to start college at our local community college. We have discovered she is eligible for the GI Bill transfer (from hubbie-her dad). This will pay full tuition, book/supplies, and fees. Plus she will get a stipend of $1,000/month.

This transfer is only good for one child. We have two.

There are only 48…

I thought you replied very appropriately to aa group. I don't know you well for him to say how you were, but felt it irrelevant. You were fine in your responses & what does how you were, have to do with how you are. even if you acted just like they did in the past, does that mean you can't evolve & pull someone up on something? That was a blatant display of puttin someone down & tryin to keep someone down & then bringin Jesus into the disrespect. I didn't like it at all, but I love this site. There's a lot of good here*

I agree with you post at AA. For 20 years, I didn't really know what the problem was, No wonder I couldn't stay sober.
