A few years ago a sponsee of mine got involved with a man new to the program. Being this wasn't her first time playing 13th stepper, she and I had a long conversation about it and the potential damage she was doing. Didn't matter, her needs came first. I fired her. After a while this man started spending a lot of her money in the name of "starting a business". Well things went from bad to worse. She ended up in an inpatient psych unit due to depression. Per an email I got from Rober H, Charlie Parmley passed away. His service is scheduled for Tuesday April 26th in Jay, OK.
Personally I find this very sad. I have gained a great deal from the Joe and Charlie Big Book studies and I use them with sponsees.
(and I met hubbie in a Joe and Charlie Big Book study!)

One of my best friends is a family physician. She does not know a lot about AA except that she suggests it to her patients whenever they come to her for their drinking problems.
Today she sent me a text asking me if I knew of any "upscale" AA meetings in town. Seems someone in the upper crust in our town would like to get sober.
I have been chuckling about this all day!

Made direct ammends wherever possible except when to do so would injure them or others.
I am NOT one of the "them or others".
Last week I was at a meeting someone brought the the 9th step up as a topic. One man shared he had stolen so much money for local stores he wasn't allowed in them any more. He then said "my sponsor said to accept the fact I will never make those ammends".
Really? Never? What kind of sponsor would say something like this to someone…

OK, here goes (not really sobriety, but definately a benefit of sobriety).
Our daughter will graduate from highschool in a couple of weeks. She is going to start college at our local community college. We have discovered she is eligible for the GI Bill transfer (from hubbie-her dad). This will pay full tuition, book/supplies, and fees. Plus she will get a stipend of $1,000/month.
This transfer is only good for one child. We have two.
